The Filipino Press Group of Sydney is a loosely organised group of Filipino-Australian journalists, broadcasters, cartoonists, columnists, photographers, authors, publishers and producers in Australia’s mass media.
We work towards excellence in our fields of journalism and other fields of mass communications such as public relations. This means seeking the truth, presenting it well, and responsibly.
Our emblem or logo, above, represents the four basic ‘Ws’ we seek in search of the truth: What, Who, When, Where. The six stars form the Southern Cross of the Australian flag under which we now call live.
The group meets once a month at a designated venue in the Sydney metropolitan area to exchange ideas and gossip and to help each other develop as better craftsmen and women in their field. It has no formal structure; members instead take part in ’round table’ meetings with no head or hierarchy but for a permanent moderator to guide the ‘club’. In between, members exchange ideas through a Yahoogroups loop exclusively for members.
A number of Filipino-Australian journalists started getting together in this manner some time in the mid-1990s, and met more regularly since 2006. This website was designed to provide members a soapbox from which to express their views about the Australian lanscape and about this country’s participation on the world stage.
Members voice their opinions on a range of subjects that touch their lives. Readers may find they agree or disagree with opinions expressed. The website offers them an opportunity to respond.
